Picture a Scientist: Free virtual screening and casual discussion 2021

It may not come as a surprise that I am for supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia. In the past, with the support from Tokyo Tech's Online Education Development Office (OEDO), advertising from Tokyo Tech's Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering (TSE), and funding from Google's Women Techmakers Program (WTM), I hosted a virtual screening and panel discussion for the movie Coded Bias. If you have a subscription, this film is also now available on Netflix.

Another film that has caught my attention is Picture A Scientist, which narrates the experiences of various female scientists in the US. While still using funding from WTM, I once again hosted a virtual screening this time followed by a casual discussion together with Tokyo Tech Academy for Leadership (TOTAL) in time with 2021's International Women's Day (IWD).

To not repeat myself, I am linking here the call for participation sent out by TOTAL for this event, as well as the report I wrote about it shortly after. To those interested, this film is actually already available on Netflix. I also acquired a DVD copy so that we can do face-to-face events in Tokyo Tech once the situation allows.
